Odd Society is a small-batch craft distillery in the heart of East Van.
Located on Powell Street in East Vancouver’s port district, Odd Society is dedicated to combining Old World distilling traditions with New World ingredients and ingenuity to create a family of spirits including whiskey, vodka and gin.
Founder and Distiller Gordon Glanz holds an MSc in brewing and distilling from Heriot Watt University in Edinburgh, Scotland where he experimented with distilling whiskey using raw grains and commercial enzymes before studying under the masters at Springbank distillery in Campbeltown.
Now back in his home town, Gordon is applying his penchant for experimentation and knowledge of tradition within the Odd Society, which he operates alongside his wife, Miriam Karp.
What’s in a Name?
The name ‘Odd Society’ reflects our interest to use our spirits and distillery as a way to bring together a diverse collection of creative and unique people. We wanted to make a home where you could feel comfortable revealing your inner oddness.
The Odd Society is about experimentation, embracing change and celebrating our individual and collective oddities.
This philosophy extends to our ideas about distilling. Just as any successful society is made up of a variety of distinct personalities in concert, we want each of our spirits to create a cast of unforgettable characters. From the subtle and discrete Wallflower Gin to the raw and untamed Mongrel, our family of spirits is meant to fill a society and celebrate the diversity and uniqueness of the Odd Society community.
Founder & Distiller
Gordon left his home of Vancouver to learn the art and science of distillation from the masters in Scotland, attaining a MSc from Heriot Watt University in Edinburgh. During his time abroad, Gordon developed a reputation for experimenting with methods and ingredients which he continues to do at Odd Society Spirits.
Joel joined Odd Society after three years as brewer and jack of all trades at R&B brewing. Joel is an amazing asset to the Odd Society team who looks after all mashing and fermentation as well as most of the distilling. Joel is also working on a recipe of his own for a future release.
While Gordon and Joel concoct Odd Society spirits in the back, Miriam handles the business side of things and the tasting room out front. Her realm includes event planning, marketing and operations as well as bringing together the people and materials that transformed the Odd Society from an idea into a reality.
